Eclectic Orphans #7

Behance has a wealth of photography teachers from whom we learn significantly daily; in fact, I borrowed the term "Orphans" from Ron Cohan to describe surplus images consigned to the scrap floor. I find him to be a highly competent photographer & valuable educator.

I read many photography books about technical and aesthetic skills, arrangements of chaos to order, and organizing composition with visual elements; everything is an interplay of your knowledge and experience. An excellent example of this is Seiki Hayashi, a master of techniques; I, like others, find his work outstanding and influential. But when the construction of the photograph is more noticeable than its content, we fail as photographers, becoming a dilettante in the worst possible sense.

So, we structure our visual translation with the mental process of making decisions to include or ignore and emphasize to the viewer what is important.

I often shoot spur-of-the-moment and intuitively, but first, pass the point of frustration. Having your camera ready at a moment's notice with the appropriate handheld shutter speed/f/stop can help minimize power optic vibrations; my tripod is essential for the longer lens on a medium-format camera, but it is not always practical.

The following images from the past six months have been plucked from previous posts due to similarity or repetition, dismissive of interest. If we pay close attention to our luminaries, we can become better photographers and even fashion ideas for vagabond Images, a cohesion I call Eclectic Orphans.
